Today I realized that I need to spend more time writing. Because when I write I have a way to clarify my thoughts and well, let’s face it, you know my thoughts are usually all over the place! When my thoughts are clarified through my writing, I suddenly realize that there’s something there worth sharing… and when I share my clarified thoughts, I provide inspiration and motivation to others. I help them! When I help people, I feel good. I also realize that my blog is the best platform for this sort of sharing right now. Since I have this amazing career where I get to help people to realize their creative potential and understand how to allow this power to influence their everyday life at any given time or place and how that power expands their capacity for living happier and more fulfilled lives, I suddenly have so much important stuff to share! My vision is beyond just helping my paying clients… My vision is to help anyone out there, anyone who is willing to open themselves up to their own creative potential. The best way for me to address the needs of all of these beautiful people, is through this blog. Here I can share with the millions of people out there who are asking themselves questions like:
“Why am I here?”
“What is my purpose?”
“Is there anything beyond this life?”
“Why is my life the way it is?”
“What is the point?”
Creatively yours dear Diary,
If you have ever found yourself asking those questions… #1 – you are not alone and #2 – you should sign up to follow this blog, because I am going to be sharing some really helpful stuff here. Come take a journey with me as together we celebrate this holiday season through the end of the year. Let me tell you right now… when I say “holiday season,” it’s not what you are thinking. We’re going to take a look at some of the lesser celebrated holidays and see what lessons can be learned from being present with them as they occur.
For example, the catalyst for this experiment was based on an article I wrote one month ago on August 22, 2015. It was for “National Be An Angel Day.” If you missed it, that’s probably because it was guest posted on the website of the Earth Angel, Anna Sayce who lives over 7,000 miles away from me in New Zealand. If you would like to read it, here is the link:
Now that you are all caught up, let’s talk about today…
Today is National Dear Diary Day.
I think I started calling my “diary” a “journal” when I turned ten. I am a prolific journaler, always have been. Presently, I have many different journals in the works. For example, one is devoted to recording and analyzing my dreams. One is where I put all of my creative inspirations for my business. One is devoted to my understanding of the Tarot. The list goes on… This morning, I opened a paper box filled with my really old diaries and journals. I randomly opened one of them and read a few paragraphs. Like a time traveler, instantly I was transported back to that time in my life. This made me realize the power this kind of writing has. In another one, I had stapled a photo. Seeing myself standing there, so young, and clutching that beer in my hand. It reminded me how I got to this place in my life, where I no longer drink alcohol and how that one change has so greatly benefited every aspect of my life. Now I can love myself even more than ever. I love myself for who I was then, too. I can see how my life’s journey has brought me here and everything is just a little more clear and easy. There are no feelings of shame, regret, or longing to contend with. Everything is all about the now.
Your challenge today is to take some time to write in your diary. If you have one, then great! You know what to do. If you don’t have one, or it’s been so long that you don’t even know where your diary is and you’re thinking right now… “Yeah, where is my diary, hmmmm, I hope someone else doesn’t find it before I do…” Well, then just let that thought go and grab any old sheet of paper and a pencil. Sit quietly for a few minutes and write a letter to your diary. Just go along with it stream-of-consciousness style and let whatever comes out, come out. Perhaps it’s just a lot of busy brain clutter that needs to come out. Perhaps you’ve got an idea you want to talk about. Perhaps your mind suddenly goes blank and there is absolutely nothing there… (very jealous if that is the case, by the way!) Yeah, so if that happens, enjoy it for as long as it lasts, and when the words come, get them in writing.
Pause here… I’ll give you a few minutes.
Here, I’ll help you get started. Write “Dear Diary, …”
Okay, how did it go? When you take time to write about your thoughts, those thoughts get closer to becoming things. So here’s a thought… After you have written to your diary, take a look at what you wrote. What is the vibe here? Are you worried about something? Are you a tight bundled wad of complaints? Are you relaxed and just noticing the present moment? Are you making big exciting plans for the future?
There’s a lot you can discover from that one little Dear Diary entry. It’s a snapshot of where you are with your life right now. Even just drawing your attention to this vibe you are projecting by analyzing a few words on a piece of paper can help you. It can show you something you weren’t aware of before. It can motivate you to change something about your day, your week, or your next few years. It can inspire you to newly awakened feeling of gratitude and peace. It’s really all about perspective. When you can see your situation from outside of yourself even for a moment, you might be surprised by what you see.
Think of yourself as walking in a dark room and fumbling about for a flashlight. You feel it in your hand and you push the ‘on’ button. Suddenly there is light! Only you’re not looking at what you thought you were looking at. The light is shining on you and it’s as if you are looking in a mirror, or from a bird’s eye perspective. You are seeing everything with a fresh set of eyes.
This is how it feels when you gain a nugget of clarity about your life. Interested? Do you believe you can do this? It’s not all that hard when you take baby steps. Anyone can vitalize their creative life and live a happier and more fulfilled life by simply opening up to the process. Ready for more?
