Friday = Art

In my classes, we’ve been experimenting with watercolor textures. We just allow the images to evolve as we go. Do you see an image emerging in this one? Just focus on the shapes and colors. Allow your thoughts to simmer.

Friday = Art

When an animal appears in your life, whether through images, stories, dreams, or in the flesh, and you suddenly take notice of it, there may be a personal message being delivered. Last week I taught another Animal Totem Workshop. Each time I facilitate this class, a new Continue reading

SpiritOfTheForestSM.jpg

I saw this image after I woke up from an intense dream. The dream was unrelated, but as I was recreating this image in real time, I realized it was linked to a memory of hiking in New Zealand. The forests there are quite magical and full of sprites and faeries. I was hiking along such a trail in the woods not far from the Franz Josef Glacier when I saw a creature that I could not describe. It was no ordinary deer, but a creature like that you might encounter Continue reading

Kelso-Thoth.jpg

I just finished up this guy: Thoth, the ancient Egyptian God of Writing, Wisdom, Magic, and the Moon. I was first introduced to him back in the 90s when I was in Egypt. My favorite form of his is the baboon, though I may try drawing him as the Ibis-headed man next. Feel free to share this image on your social media. Spread some Thoth love. Feel into some Thoth energy today. If a nugget of inspiration comes your way, be sure to write it down. If you can’t find the words, then doodle it out. Think of it as a gift from Thoth.

What Makes You Feel Mighty?

warrior

I am mighty, like a warrior. Maybe not the sort of warrior that first comes to mind. My sword is not fashioned from earthly metal. My sword is of the mental universe. I use it with love and compassion as it slices through apathy and false beliefs. My shield is not for deflecting arrows or bullets. Although it is invisible, it is stronger than Continue reading

Creating Consequences: The Good Kind!

Trustinme

Consequence: A result or effect of an action or condition.

This morning I went for a run. I like to run. I don’t run far or fast, but I enjoy getting sweaty and the feel of my feet pounding the ground. I even enjoy the aches in my knees that tend to let up after a minute or so. But the best part of running, is what happens to my brain. It’s what neuroscientists call “transient hypofrontality.” Really, if you want to know the truth, it’s what I live for. It is what happens when we are experiencing our creative potential. It’s also what happens when people who don’t usually allow themselves to paint or draw give it a try.

I’m no neuroscientist, but basically here’s how it works: So when I run, my body starts doing stuff that it doesn’t do all the time. It has to work at it, because I’m really no star athlete. My age and condition require that my normally busy brain devote some effort to this activity so that I don’t fall off the sidewalk and into oncoming traffic. Yeah, that would be bad. Because my brain is just like yours and the most awesome organ, it automatically knows how to Continue reading

3 Good Reasons For Selling Your Creations

Some people have been asking me why I have been purging my original artwork on eBay for ridiculously low starting bids. Well, I thought I would write about three good reasons why, just as I list another lovely piece of original art from my collection. World, meet “Bean.”

Reason #1: Letting Go

I created this painting in 2008, so it’s been in my possession for nine years now. A lot has happened in nine years, and frankly, I’m ready to move forward. So, part of my purging has to do with Continue reading

Patiently Receiving Possibility

patiently-receiving-possibility-smThis morning I am allowing myself to sit still quietly… observing. Watchful like the owl in the night, patiently awaiting an impulse to act. Open to all possibilities, half in dream and half awake, silently shifting between the inner and outer worlds. Surrounded by an abundance of inspiration, I delight in the stillness of my own carefully cultivated patience. Continue reading
