Just keep creating…

So, #the100dayProject is about 19 days in now, and how many people have given up? Some people have decided that it’s not easy to create every day. Do I hear you? Literally, some days you have no spare time. You hardly have time to feed yourself, or God help you if you have other creatures depending on you to feed them, too. I have a pet shrimp who somehow lives off of tank algae when I don’t have time for him, and because of this I think he is perhaps the best pet I’ve ever had. The other members of my household are luckily a little more vocal about their needs. Point is, there are days when it seems like there’s just no room for a single creative moment.IMG_2298

Well, at least that’s what you tell yourself. That’s the excuse. The truth is, there is always time for your creative life. Opportunities are presented to you every moment of every day to be creative. It’s all about how you perceive any given moment, especially the chaotic ones. So, even if you haven’t posted your “art du jour” on Instagram, it doesn’t mean you didn’t have an artful moment all day. For example…

Telling a joke, especially one that gets a laugh (even if it’s just from you), can be a welcome and necessary creative event.

Allowing that woman with only one item ahead of you in line… that’s a creative event. It gives you a few extra minutes to practice patience, observe, or enjoy just being.

Noticing how the light reflects on the hair of a loved one. Bam! You just witnessed the miracle of a creative angel. Relish every nano-moment of it.

Whether you are making, observing, being present, or feeling inspired, each part has a place in the creative experience. We have become so focused on the end product that we tend to forget that those most favorite end products came from a long line of small, unappreciated, or seemingly insignificant experiences — every little part of which created the final result. Even those so-called final results are often not the final of anything, but instead just another beginning. So before you beat yourself up for missing a few days of #the100dayProject, just reflect on why you started in the first place. What were you feeling when you started? Were you excited? Were you curious about where this all might lead? Where you wondering if the project you chose would hold your interest?

Playing with my food in public, to the utter horror of the sushi chef.

Whatever initial feelings you had that got you started, now is the perfect time to get back in touch with them. If you can find new enthusiasm to keep going then simply pick up where you left off, you don’t need anyone’s permission to do that. Just do it! If things have changed, then, congrats! You are evolving. Change is growth. Go with that. Whatever you decide to do, please, don’t • stop • creating.

Try to understand that creating always involves so much more than what you think it does.

This is a good thing because it’s in the unexpected moments where curiosity, mystery, and magic begin to percolate. All you have to do is have the patience to notice what is unfolding right before you eyes.

A magically delicious knock off.

I didn’t technically post a new creation every day, but in no way have I dropped out of the project. I’m still all in, baby! I am also seriously enjoying my project. Having always had a strained relationship with food, I am enjoying my theme of playing with my food.  It has liberated me in ways I can’t even fully comprehend yet. I mean, who knew carving cheese was this much fun?

So my advice is, keep up the good work, all of you. I can’t stop hearing Ellen DeGeneres’s voice as Dory, “Just keep creating…”

Sending you all my love and support.

What Inspires You?

Faith Hope Love

What inspires you? What is it that gets you all excited about starting a new project or creating something in your life? Can you narrow it down to a few words? Inspiration comes from so many sources. It is all around you! If you could just open your eyes and see it, you would know that inspiration is everywhere and in every thing.

Some of you may know that I’ve been holding Creating Workshops at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission this past year. Working with the clients in addiction recovery there has been one of the most amazing and rewarding experiences of my life and I just wanted to tell you a little more about it.

Every day, the Las Vegas Rescue Mission feeds 1,000 people who are either homeless or in need. People begin to line up at the doors of the cafeteria hours before they open. Everyone who comes is fed, some only stay for a meal, but others stay to rebuild their shattered lives. There are almost 200 people Continue reading

One Thing A Powerful Creator NEVER Does

Ravens.jpg

Last week, seven ravens suddenly flew into my tree in the back yard. They squawked and prattled with each other and created a huge cacophony of sound. (I’ve always wanted to use the word cacophony, especially in relation to ravens, so thank you for this indulgence). I was just relaxing with my thoughts and my cat as the evening sun was growing low and golden when this raucous bunch totally caught me off-guard. My cat and I both just froze with amazement as they engaged in their noisy business. They had our full attention and my cat bravely tried to mimic their calls, but she was completely ignored. Apparently, she doesn’t speak Raven very well, and neither do I, because I’m still trying to completely decipher their message. After a few minutes, they finished their noisy chatter and flew off, one by one, in a line and out of sight.

Over the past week, I have meditated on the message of the Ravens. The number seven and the time of day also seemed significant, and I have been getting a lot of related messages about the sun and that golden yellow color. Just like me, as you learn to create your experience in life, you will begin to notice Continue reading

Your Creativity & The Moon Cycles (Part 8: The Balsamic Moon)

MoonCan you believe it has been less than a month since we started this Moon Cycle? It’s been quite a journey! This is what Conscious Creating is all about.

  • Checking in with your intentions every few days.
  • Staying open to opportunities that will help to manifest them.
  • Acting in alignment with your heart, mind, and soul.

It’s a powerful practice and one that can be used in so many areas of your life. Your increasing mindfulness bringing life and vitality to your creations and your day to day experiences. Ahhhhhhh!

So where are we now in the process? We are at the Balsamic Moon and the last phase of the Moon Cycle before we begin again with the next New Moon.

Just as balsamic vinegar is a potent and flavorful liquid produced through a reduction process, so is the Balsamic Moon phase a time for Continue reading

Your Creativity & The Moon Cycles (Part 6: Disseminating Moon)

MoonWhew! How was that Full Moon, people? Anything unexpected happen? Personally, I felt a little overwhelmed by it. I took a few naps, slept extra deeply at night, and woke up with some serious bed-head on more than one occasion. How about you? What was your reveal? Now that you have had a few days to ponder your reveal, you might be thinking… what do I do with it?

Welcome to the Disseminating Moon phase! This is where the magic really begins. To get started here’s a visualization for you…

It’s a super hot day, yeah, like Vegas hot! Ever feel it? It’s like stepping into an oven. You look into the sky for signs of relief, and there’s a huge cloud overhead. Suddenly, the sky opens up and it starts to rain, gently at first. The raindrops first feel warm on your skin, then as they increase in number, they feel cool and refreshing. Before you realize it, your internal thermometer has dropped ten degrees and all is right with the world again. You’re smiling, your energy is back, and you’re ready to indulge in your next creation…

2016: Intentions for the 9 Year

2016: Intentions for the 9 year

It seems that even Pantone is on board with my 2016 themes this year. Their color picks of the year are Rose Quartz and Serenity, as sampled in my illustration above.

2016 is a NINE year (2+0+1+6=9). This is exciting to me because 9 is MY FAVORITE NUMBER! I am a nine, and my personal intention for this coming “9” year is to experience completeness of self. The 9 in our 1-9 annual numeric calendar system represents the completion of a cycle. For me, this past cycle has been a time of being still with myself. Eight years ago, after years of searching for truth and answers outside of myself, I consciously began the search for truth and answers within. After several years of travel, I chose to settle down here in Las Vegas. It was not an easy adjustment… this becoming still and shifting inward. It revealed to me feelings of restlessness, discomfort, anxiety, and entrapment. At times, I experienced myself at my worst. The inner-strength that I had always relied on throughout my life suddenly seemed to expire and I found myself weak and utterly broken. Continue reading

Creating Light from the Darkness (Winter Solstice)

WinterSolstice

Life is full of contrasts. Change is the one thing we can count on in life. Everything changes, sometimes dramatically as if in an instant. What was light is suddenly dark, or what is dark is suddenly brought to light. Other times change happens so slowly, with such small increments, that our human perception can hardly conceive it at all. Like a glacier, the ice appears static and still, but underneath there are currents of icy water, moving the frozen mountains above. They tumble forward, in a dance that only the songs of epics could inspire. Huge monoliths of ice will transform in the dark of night, so slowly, it’s hard to perceive. This too, can be the pattern your energetic movements from dark to light, or from light to dark.

December 22 is the Winter Solstice. On Tuesday we will experience the longest night of the year. It is a special moment in the annual cycle and has been celebrated and revered across cultures spanning all of human existence. From Machu Picchu to Stonehenge, the evidence of a history of human connection to the winter solstice marks our ancient earth with carefully constructed monuments.

Even our modern world responds to this energetic shift. Do you think it is a coincidence that the new Star Wars movie is opening around the time of the Winter Solstice? Continue reading

It’s All About the Gratitude!

creating and gratitude

Does it seem as strange to you as it does to me that we only celebrate Thanksgiving once a year? I mean there are so many things to be thankful for every day, all day long…

The Thanksgiving Day holiday is a time to acknowledge all that you are thankful for. The tradition is to gather together with friends and family to share some words of thanks together as a group. How have your Thanksgiving Days been lately? Have you gathered for a feast? Has anyone spoken up about what they are most thankful for? Has it become just another day to eat a lot of food and watch football?

As your Creativity Coach, I urge you to celebrate the holiday this year with the intention of expressing Continue reading

One Fail-Proof Way To Expand Your Creative Thoughts

One Fail proof wau to exand your creative thoughts... take a hike!

One of the best ways to revitalize your creative life is to reconnect to nature. Spending some quiet reflective time in a natural setting can expand your creative thoughts almost instantaneously. I am so fortunate to live in a place where that wide-open nature is so easily accessible. Hiking was never really a part of my life growing up, but I discovered it as an adult and once I did, I knew that something significant had shifted inside of me. I found a way to connect to my spirit through nature.

Today is National Take A Hike Day! To help celebrate it, your challenge for today is to make a date with nature. If you can’t run outside right now, set a time when you can and keep the date! No cancelling, no postponing… this is really important! Getting connected to nature is the best way to clear your thoughts of the man-made clutter that we are constantly bombarding ourselves with. Once you get out there, here are three tips to make your experience worth the trip. Continue reading
