True As Blue

Deep in my heart I’ve been wanting to write a Children’s Picture Book about global climate change and our role as stewards of this beautiful planet we live on. I’ve been waiting for a story to come to me ever so patiently. Then, just yesterday it appeared! As I sat in my backyard and wrote in my journal next to my favorite tree, the words came through my hand and I don’t even really know how. I believe it may have been from a source outside of myself. It felt like an out of body experience. I love it when that happens!

I spent the rest of the day tweaking the words, trying to articulate something that better communicated the feeling that had been delivered earlier. I saw pictures with the words. They were clear and bright. The character was a little girl with wavy hair and yoga pants. I feel like I’ve been given a lovely gift. I really hope I don’t let the hidden realm down on this one. This time I have to fulfill my end of the bargain. Wish me luck!

This morning I woke before dawn. There’s a page in my story that describes the color of the sky as pale purple. I wrote that without really being certain that it was real. It’s been a while since I watched the sun rise that early. To my great delight, the sky was purple! Then I crawled back in bed and drew this picture on my tablet. The title of my story is “True As Blue.” I’m making a wish on a morning star that it will be published someday.

May your wish upon a morning star come true, too!

Love,

Bonnie

Bonnie Kelso is an writer and illustrator of children’s books. She also facilitates creative workshops. She is the author of I Am Shaylee Seakin: Speaking My Truth an interactive coloring and story book for kids which helps them to articulate what is most important to them.

Shaylee is curious. Shaylee wants to understand how the world works. Shaylee is afraid of just one thing: being alone. Shaylee is not a mermaid.

Shaylee is a Seakin!

This is her “truth story” just as she sees it.
