Recreate Your Creative Self

As creative beings we were created to create. We are masters of our own transformations. These transformations can sometimes be long and arduous processes or they can occur suddenly and spontaneously like some sort of supernova of enlightenment. How do you define transformation? Does it have to be painful and time consuming? Does it have to mean that you face all that you cannot begin to fathom all at once? What if, transformation was as easy and flipping a light switch on the wall? What if you could achieve the most beautiful transformation of your life through small steps every day that were fun, playful, and made you feel joyful?

Some people simply don’t recognize the power of their own creativity. As a Creativity Coach I’ve spent a lot of time with people talking to them about why they can’t see themselves as creative.

They have many excuses as to why they can’t solve problems creatively. They just aren’t smart enough, clever enough, rich enough, strong enough, talented enough, and so on… What do each of theses excuses have in common? I’ll give you a hint, it’s that “e” word. It is a feeling of lack. A feeling of not being enough. Clients are often surprised when I tell them that this feeling of not being enough is simply a thought. There is no actual truth in it.

There are so many ways that we judge ourselves and one another. So many measures of what is and what is not. If you have the mindset of being enough, or even better, a mindset of abundance, then none of these other “truths” matter a bit. Never forget that you are the master of your own experience. When you possess the self-confidence of a true creator, you know without a shadow of a doubt, that you (and only you) are the facilitator of your own abundance.

“Not what we have
But what we enjoy, constitutes our abundance.”

–Epicurus

Creative energy in the form of thoughts or ideas are swirling around us all the time. These waters are rich and deep. All you have to do is reach out to receive them. What is stopping you? Fear of failure? Lack of self-confidence? The false belief that you are not enough?

You are enough, just as you are right now. There is no good excuse not to take the next step forward no matter how small. Even if you can only devote five minutes a day to nurturing your creative life, it is what you must do to begin the journey from “not being enough” towards living a life of abundance.

It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.

Paul G. Allen, Co-Founder, Microsoft

Are you ready to recreate your creative self?

“Arts education aids students in skills needed in the workplace: flexibility, the ability to solve problems and communicate, the ability to learn new skills, to be creative and innovative, and to strive for excellence.”

I promise you can’t do it wrong, so what are you waiting for?

“Logic will get you from A to B.  Imagination will take you everywhere.”

    1. Yay! I’m so grateful for teachers like you, Hannah. Thanks for your comment, I hope you will follow my blog so we can keep in touch and continue to support one another in our mutual mission to light those creative flames. Love it. This reminds me of a Creating Exercise I led last week with my High School group. I’ll share the details in my next post. 🙂
